These groups have been set up as part of the Neighbourhood Policing Model and South Gloucestershire Council's Community Engagement initiative. Their members include people who live and work in the area and representatives from the local police, Avon Fire & Rescue, Primary Care Trust, South Gloucestershire Council, the Town & Parish Council and other local organisations. The aim is to:
- work together to ensure that local communities are safe and pleasant places to live, work and play
- give local people a greater voice and influence over local decisions and the priorities of the service providers
- fund and support a number of initiatives that help the local community, such as shop-radio schemes, CCTV, Community Speedwatch, young people's and older people's projects, and community engagement projects
The LINk will be a network of local people, organisations and groups that want to make health and social care services better.
The LINk’s membership is small at the moment and urgently needs people from the local community who feel strongly about local health and social care services.

While burglaries of homes in Kingswood have fallen by a third comparing the past 12 months with 2010-2011 – meaning 50 fewer victims – thieves have turned their attention to outbuildings.
Officers say thieves target sheds and garages because they are likely to be less well secured and are used to store valuable bikes, motorcycles, mopeds, power tools and sports equipment.
Police operations have led to arrests and now the neighbourhood team is offering the community tips on making their sheds and garages harder to burgle.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Rachael Hodges said: “There have been 44 non-dwelling burglaries reported in the past month. As well as carrying out high-visibility uniformed patrols in the crime hotspots and targeting known offenders, we want to make sure local people know what they can do to deter thieves.”
Police are delivering leaflets to households in areas where there have been burglaries and holding two road show events in Kingswood in February.
The road shows will feature a special exhibition shed fitted out to show security products in use, as well as information leaflets, property marking kits and the chance to talk to officers for specific advice.
The first will be at the Kingswood Civic Centre on the High Street between 9am and 1pm on Wednesday February 15 2012.
The second will be at the Kings Chase Shopping Centre between 9am and 1pm the following Wednesday, February 22 2012.
If you are unable to come to the road shows, you can get advice from the neighbourhood team by calling 101 or clicking below.
Police recommend:
• Making sure fences and gates are sturdy
• Using ‘Sold Secure’ locks on sheds, garages and gates
• Fitting an inexpensive shed or garage alarm, available from most DIY stores
• Fitting a secure anchor point within the shed/garage and chaining bikes and other valuables to it with a ‘Sold Secure’ chain or ‘D’ lock
• Recording the serial number of bikes and other items at www.immobilise.com
• Marking property with your postcode
• Visiting www.halgradesyourlocks.com and stolenbristolbikes@gmail.com for advice on cycle security.
