If you're interested in joining Kingswood Women's Institute, please contact:
We meet at 7.30pm on the second Thursday of the month at the Congregational Church Hall - please come and join us!
The Women's Institute plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.
We are a friendly sociable group of women of all ages, who like to try new activities.
At our meetings we listen to a variety of speakers, enjoy meeting new friends and have fun. Guests are always welcome.
The WI also offers extra social and educational events throughout the year and the opportunity to support and be involved in local and community events.
Like most Women’s Institutes, Kingswood doesn’t just offer a monthly meeting. We arrange other activities too, open to all our members and (very often) their friends and families too.
Here’s just a taster of the kinds of things we offer. As these are ‘extras’ the costs are not included in the membership fees but we do our utmost to keep costs as low as we possibly can.
We try to organise a couple of trips each year. This year we will be visiting Beckford Mill, near Tewkesbury, to see the silk printing and garment making; and Cadbury World. This will also offer the chance to visit Birmingham and its shopping centre. The cost of our trips includes coach travel and a meal.
Our Craft Day towards the end of 2015 was ‘Crazy Patchwork’ and earlier in April we enjoyed a day of mixed crafts including Silk Scarf painting, necklace making and Iris folding. The cost of these days includes paying for the tutor and any materials that are provided.
Yes! The WI is famous for its cake making! We hold a cake sale probably once or twice a year at our monthly meetings. There’s no pressure on any member to make a cake but it’s a very popular event.
Monthly Monday Lunch
We have a monthly lunch club. It’s very informal and members turn up as and when they can. We meet in a local pub for lunch. It’s not the same pub every time but if we find one we particularly like we may stick with it for a while. It’s a chance to meet new members, get to know other members better and have a good old chat.
Every WI belongs to a ‘group’ with other local WIs and each takes it in turn to organise several events during the course of the year. This year St George’s WI is in charge of the organising. So far this year they’ve held a 1940s-themed event in March that was a great success. We’re looking forward to another event in October. They are also planning a Carol Service for December.
